Back from Japan/Di ritorno dal Giappone

 I've been back from my trip to Japan for a few days, but with jet-lag, being stranded in Vancouver for a day due to bad weather and going back to work the following day I couldn't really think of posting on the blog.

Similarly to last time I was over there (3 years ago) I will make a little post showing the gaming, modelling or related activities that we had during the two weeks.

This time around, as the trip was much shorter, we had less chance to indulge in our favorite pastimes, but we still managed a decent amount.

Here are, in non chronological order, the activities we had:

Sono tornato dal Giappone da qualche giorno, ma tra fuso orario, ritardi aerei e l'esser tornato a lavorare il giorno dopo essere atterrato, non ho neanche pensato di fare un post sul blog fino adesso.

Come dopo il mio precedente viaggio (3 anni fa) ho deciso di fare un post per raccontare le attivita' ludiche, modellistiche e adiacenti a cui ci siamo dedicati nelle due settimane in cui sono stato dal VJ.

Questa volta il viaggio e' stato molto piu' corto del precedente, quindi abbiamo potuto dedicarci meno ai nostri passatempi preferiti, ma siamo comunque soddisfatti del risultato.

Di seguito un po' di foto in ordine non necessariamente cronologico:

We visited the war memorial museum at the Yasukuni-Jinja temple in Tokyo, a very interesting collection gathering stuff from Samurai armours to guns, fighter planes, tanks, a locomotive, etc

Abbiamo visitato il museo ai caduti al tempio Yasukuni-Jinja di Tokyo, una collezione molto interessante che va dalle armature da Samurai, ai caccia della seconda guerra mondiale, un carrarmato, una locomotiva, ecc.

And we played some boardgames, Zombies, always a lot of fun and Highlander from River Horse Games, of which I painted 4 figures and IlVJ will paint the remaining 3 (better pictures will be posted when they are complete)

Overall it was great to go visit IlVJ and his family, we had not met in 3 years, due to Covid and other reasons, I hope we will be able to meet again in Italy this summer.

E siamo anche riusciti a giocare a qualche gioco in scatola, Zombies, sempre divertente e Highlander della River Horse Games, del quale io ho dipinto 4 miniature e IlVJ dipingera' le 3 rimanente (foto decenti saranno postate a tempo debito)

Nel complesso e' stato fantastico andare a trovare mio fratello e famiglia, tra Covid e cose varie, non ci vedevamo da 3 anni, speriamo di poter ripetere quest'estate in Italia.

This gives me a total of 526 models painted for myself this year, as you can see, quite a few of them are small scale, so it is easier to make up big numbers, but I'm pretty satisfied with the final output for the year.

This totals to 180 models I painted for others and, added to my personal 526 is a grand total of 706 models for 2022, which is, if I'm not mistaken, the highest yearly count so far.

Next year will see a lot of 1/72 historical models painted with a quick shade dipping, so the could would probably be even higher, even if someone could claim dipping is kind of cheating, but hey, we are only playing with toy soldiers here, so who cares?

A side information, since you often see IlVJ's models posted, but I always count my stuff only, be aware that, even if I don't know how much stuff he paints every year, I keep a tally of our combined collection and we are, so far, at a rough total of 11.111 painted models in about 30 years, not bad I would dare say.

And before I go on with the Italian part of the post, I should post the last model of the year, a little preview of a small project I will work on in 2023, a small batch of Warhammer 40,000 mostly Rogue Trader era models that I will paint in various Badab War chapters to tie in with the Epic project you saw this year.

Come da tradizione, ecco l'ultimo post del 2022 con il conteggo di quello che ho dipinto durante l'annoed un'ultima foto prima della partenza per andare a trovare IlVJ in Giappone per il nuovo anno (altra tradizione).

Come avrete visto, l'ultimo pezzo dell'anno e' una sorta di anteprima di un piccolo progetto che portero' a termine nel 2023, un gruppetto di space marines per Warhammer 40,000 era Rogue Trader cghe dipingero' in varie colorazioni della Badab War per rimanere in tema col progetto di Epic iniziato quest'anno.

L'anno prossimo lavorero' su un gran numero di pezzi storici in 1/72 che saranno finiti con un quick shade della Army Painter, quindi il conteggio dovrebbe essere ancora piu' alto, qualcuno potrebbe accusarmi di barare, ma hey, siamo qui per giocare con dei soldatini, quindi chi se ne frega?

Un'informazione aggiuntiva, siccome posto sovente lavore di mio fratello (IlVJ), ma non tengo un conteggio annuale di quello che produce, ho fatto un altro tipo di calcolo ed ora tengo il conto del totale della nostra collezione di pezzi di pinti combinata che si stima, ad oggi (con un certo livello di errore) a 11,111 pezzi dipinti in circa 30 anni, oserei dire niente male.

Crescent Hawks mercanary lance/Lancia di mercenari dei Crescent Hawks

 This is the last lance of inner sphere mechs I had ready for this season, next will be the clan ones.

I decided to go for a Crescent Hawks lance with the typical mechs they had in the videogame, just because I like the colour scheme.

Questa e' l'ultima lancia di mech dell'inner sphere che avevo preparato per questa stagione, i prossimi saranno dei clan.

Ho optato per la livrea dei Crescent Hawks, con una lancia composta dei mechs tipici del video gioco, se non altro perche' mi paice la colorazione.

Gray Death Legion company/Comapgnia della Gray Death Legion

 I still had a bunch of plastic Mechs and I figured that by adding a few more I could have the models for the Gray Death legion sourcebook scenarios. To those I added a few hovercrafts to add some variety.

A quick and simple paint job was enough to complete it quickly and call it done. Now I just need to play the scenarios.

Avevo ancora un po' di Mech di plastica quando mi sono reso conto che con l'aggiunta di alcuni pezzi, poteve mettere assieme la compagnia di Gray Death Legion necessaria per gli scenari del sourcebook dallo stesso titolo. Ai Mech ho aggiunto alcuni hovercraft per varieta'.

Una semplice e rapida pittura e l'unita' e' completa, ora non mi resta che giocare gli scenari.

Space Hulk genestealers/Genestealers di Space Hulk

 After close to 10 years since IlVJ gifted me a set of Space Hulk, I finally completed all the miniatures.

These 12 genestealers were all I had left to paint, but they had originally been left in Italy, until last Christmas, when I decided it was time to take them to Canada and paint them.

I would really like to take the game here and use it, but the whole set weights a ton and I never have enough luggage space to take it. We will see if in the future I manage to take it with me.

Dopo quasi 10 anni da quando IlVJ mi regalo' un set di Space Hulk, ho finalmente dipinto tutte le miniature.

Questi 12 genestealers erano tutto quello che restava da fare, ma erano originariamente rimasti in Italia, finche', los corso Natale, li ho portati cone me in Canada e ora li ho dipinti.

Mi piacerebbe portare il gioco qui in Canada, ma la scatola pesa una tonnellata e non ho mai abbastanza spazio nel bagaglio per portarla con me. Vedremo cosa riesco a fare in futuro.

WWII figures/Figurini della seconda guerra mondiale

 This is a 1/35 figures set from Dragon that IlVJ bought because he wanted to paint the Italian Bersagliere, I ended up painting the Germans and we decided to put them all together on big base as the set was originally conceived.

I don't really like the title, so I stuck the little plate on the back of the base, as a reminder of what it is, but you don't really see it from the front.

It was fun to paint models in a different scale from what we ususally do and I got to try painting some pea dot camo, but I won't repeat the experience soon.

Questo e' un set della Dragon di figurini in 1/35 della seconda guerra mondiale che IlVJ compro' per dipingere il Bersagliere italiano. Io ho dipinto i tedeschi ed abbiamo deciso di mettere tutti assieme su una base grande per mantenere il set come concepito originariamente.

Il titolo del set non mi piace particolarmente, quindi ho messo la targhetta sul retro del piedistallo in modo che si possa sapere di cosa si tratta, senza pero' vederla dal davanti.

E' stato divertente dipingere modelli in una scala che di solito non utilizziamo ed ho anche avuto un'occsasione per dipingere una mimetica pea dot, ma non credo sara' una cosa che rifaro' tanto presto.

7th Pesht fire lance/Lancia di fuoco a lungo raggio del 7th Pesht

 The 7th Pesht is a refiment of the Draconis Combine that defends the core of the realm, this is a long range fire lance.

Il 7th Pesht e' un reggimento della Draconis Combine che difende il centro della nazione, questa e' una lancia di fuoro a lungo raggio.

Battletech pirates/Pirati di Battletech

 These are some more old plastic mechs I rescued with a quick paint job. 

The models, like those in the previous post, were in pretty bad shape, but considering the small effort put into them, I can sider the rescue a success.

Now I have a couple of lances of pirates for my games.

Questi sono altri vecchi mech di plastica che ho recuperato con una rapida mano di colore.

I modelli, come quelli del post precedente, erano in condizione abbastanza pessime, ma considerando il minimo sforzo per recuperarli, con sidero il salvataggio pienamente riuscito.

Kell Hounds reinforced lance/Lancia rinforzata dei Kell Hounds

 These 5 mechs are some old Fasa plastic mechs I got in a big lot I traded for painting. These were painted and I stripped the paint off of them, but it was a pretty messy and unsuccessful process, but as you might know by now, I try not to leave anything unpainted, so they got a very quick paintjob as Kell Hounds, in case I want to play some Clan Invasion scenario in the Draconis Combine.

Questi 5 mech sono dei vecchi modelli in plastica della Fasa che ho ricevuto in un lotto di pezzi scambiati per pittura.

Erano dipinti ed il processo di rimozione della pittura e' stato molto laborioso e non molto riuscito, ma come ormai dovrebbe essere chiaro, cerco di non lasciare niente di non dipinto, quindi questi mech hanno ricevuto la livrea dei Kell Hounds, nel caso in cui voglia giocare degli scenari ambientati durante l'oinvasione dei Clan nella Draconis Combine.
