The end of the year has come

Hello everyone, here we are again, the last post of the year with the tallying up of what I painted in 2023.

It has been a very productive year, mostly due to the fact that I decided to work on a lot of 1/72 models that, since I use the Quick Shade from Army Painter, get done very quickly.

Let's get on with the count:

Things that I painted for myself:

- 28mm fantasy RPG infantry models: 4

- 28mm fantasy RPG large creatures: 2

- 28mm fantasy RPG mounted models: 2

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer infantry models: 73

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer mounted models: 8

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer large creatures: 5

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer war machines: 1

- 28mm historical infantry models: 63

- 28mm historical mounted models: 25

- 28mm historical chariot: 1

- 28mm Sci-fi Warhammer 40,000/Warzone infantry models: 31

- 28mm Sci-fi Warhammer 40,000/Warzone large creatures: 2

- 28mm Sci-fi RPG infantry models: 10

- 28mm Sci-fi RPG vehicles and robots: 4

- no scale Sci-fi starships and star fighters: 16

- 1/285 Battletech mechs: 13

- 1/285 Battletech vehicles: 2

- 1/72 historical infantry models: 293

- 1/72 historical mounted models: 44

- 1/72 WWII infantry models: 63

- 1/35 WWII infantry models: 2

- various scales terrain pieces: 10

This adds up to a total of 674 models, again, big numbers thanks to a very simple painting method, but I am very satisfied.

For other people I painted the following models:

- 28mm fantasy RPG infantry models: 11

- 28mm fantasy RPG large creatures: 6

- 28mm fantasy RPG small creatures: 9

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer infantry models: 21

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer mounted models: 4

- 28mm fantasy Warhammer large creatures: 7

- 28mm fantasy Warmachines/Hordes infantry models: 6

- 28mm fantasy Warmachines/Hordes: 6

- 28mm historical infantry models: 4

- 28mm WWII infantry models: 57

- 28mm WWII vehicles: 3

- 15mm WWII vehicles: 22

- 15mm WWII guns: 4

- 32mm Star Wars legion infantry models: 4

- 32mm Star Wars legion vehicles: 3

- various scale terrain pieces: 27

This adds up to a total of 194 models, which, added to my personal total is a grand total of 868 models painted in 2023, my absolute record, which I will probably struggle to even match in 2024, but I will definitely try.

Finally, I will leave you with a teaser of things to come, I will start working on some 1/72 napoleonics in 2024, wish me luck.

Warhammer thugs of Slaanesh

This is a small unit of thugs of Slaanesh I recently painted, they are for my Warhammer 3rd edition campaign of Realm of Chaos and, following the trend in it, it is made of leftover figures from all over the place.

Some of the figures (especially the gladiator) are really ugly, but this idea of using whatever I have on hand is still appealing a fun, the models overall look pretty cool and sufficiently Slaaneshi.

Dwarf all-stars

These are the last of my special dwarves, I was very lucky to get one of these qhen my Brother was working for Games Workshop in Japan, it is the crown jewel of my dwarf collection.

One more giant and an unicorn

This week I have two very nice old models from Ral Partha, they are from the early series by Tom Meyer, in the typical small scale with very nice details, they are both from the late 70s and they ware a blast to paint.

One more dwarf

This is a model I bought many many years ago and was stripped of paints around 20 years ago when I decided to repaint all my dwarves.

It took me a very long time, but he is finally back and ready for the tabletop.

Limited edition Dwarf Daemon Slayer

I am close to completion of my "special" dwarves project, I finished this splendid limited edition Dwarf Slayer and I only have one model left after this.

These models are taking a long time to paint, they are very nice and I try to do a good job on them, but I'm happy I finally decided to paint them, they had been sitting around unpainted for way too long.

The most famous of all dwarves

This week we have a special model, it is one of the White Dwarf versions one could get with the magazine subscriptions.

IlVJ gave it to me years ago (I don't recall which year it was given out). It it a finecast model, so not great to work with, but it didn't have too many imperfections.

Since it was just standing on a treasure chest, I decided to do something a little more interesting with it, and gave him a boar to ride on, more pirate-y in my opinion.

He would be a nice table decoration if I ever get a chunk of sea on a board.

The last units for DBA

This post celebrates a big goal, these are the last DBA models in 1/72 scale I own, with this lot all the ancient stuff I ever had is done, some of them (the Samnite cavalry) go back to probably 2005 or 2006.

Now the collection of ancient models in 1/72 totals 737 models and allows us (mostly me, IlVJ lost interest in DBA long ago) to cover the most common Ellenistic and Classical period armies with Greeks, Macedonians, Tracians, Carthaginians, Gauls, Romans, Hispanics and few more.

I can consider this period covered in this scale and move forward with colonial, Napoleonic and modern era troops.

A pile of garbage

This week I have a very weird and ugly model.

In the current developments of the Chaos warbands campaign I'm playing with a small group of friends, Cyrus' champion of Khorne (currently a human/troglodyte hybrid) received a juggernout of Khorne to ride into battle.

Sourcing one up is actually a problem, the currently available one from GW is huge, very expensive ($70 in Canada) and would not fit with the general look of our games (this is a minor concern, Finecast and exorbitant cost are the real concerns).

I went raiding in my bits box and after some digging started building one from scrap. The result is one of the ugliest things I've ever put together, but with a decent paint job it is acceptable (barely).

The person who will be using ig had a good laugh when he saw it and said it was actually pretty good, considering it was made with the very end of my available bits, but I'll let you be judges and see what you thing about it.

Joseph Bugman, a very important dwarf

This week we have more special dwarves, specifically two versions of the Joseph Bugman's miniature available at the pub at Games Workshop HQ in Nottingham.

I got these from a friend who visited the pub in two different occasions and was so kind to gift them to me, it took me ages to paint them, but I'm happy with the results.

Appropriately enough, I also have some dwarven casualties, but most of them look like they actually succumbed to alcohol rather than battle wounds.

Jopseph Bugman, as far as I know this was the first version available at the pub. 28mm, Citadel, painted by Ginzio

Joseph Bugman, this should be the second version available, it had an optional axe instead of the stool, but in my opinion he looks much cooler and menacing swinging a stool. 28mm, Citadel, painted by Ginzio

Chaos troops and an ogre

This week I have a small addition to my Khorne thugs bowmen from Battlemaster.

I needed to expand the unit for some games, so I used a bunch of historical figures that had no specific use and just gave them an appropriate colour schemes.

The figures are quite a bit smaller and of a different style, but overall on the table they don't look too bad in a unit.

The complete 16 men (twice the number of Khorne) unit, ready for the battlefield.

The next figure is a very odd ogre from RAFM that Garner gifted me a while ago, it is a very characterful model with an odd WWII German helmet and decorations, it was a ton of fun to paint and I'm looking forward to field it.

Just a tiny post this week

I did paint a few models in the past week, but I didn't have a chance to take pictures, so I'm only able to post a single picture of a couple of goblins that I primed more than a year ago, but will be part of a unit that is still not ready to paint yet.

Instead of keep waiting, I just went ahead and painted them, the rest of the unit will come in the future, but for now here they are.

Cool dwarves

This week we have the first part of a small project I'm working on, it is a small group of about 15-20 dwarves I collected in the last few years.
My dwarf army is already huge, but these are more one off or cool models I collected just out of sheer dwarven passion.
All them can be considered Oldhammer models, even if for my Oldhammer ends in 1992, when Rick Priestley sold away the company.
Anyway, here you are a bunch of nice and unusual old dwarf models.

The Badab war project part 2

This is the (very small) contingent of renegade space marines I painted for my Badab war project, more will come in the future, but for now this is all there is.
